NAMI-NYC Metro Named as 2015 Rona and Ken Purdy Award to End Discrimination Recipient

We're thrilled to announce NAMI-NYC Metro as this years winner of the Ron and Ken Purdy Award which honors an individual or organization that has done significant work in raising public awareness about mental illness and reducing stigma. Through the I Will Listen Campaign, and offering every NAMI Signature program this affiliate has done an excellent at reducing stigma. These efforts, combined with their partnership with the NAMI on Campus group at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and hosting the largest NAMIWalk in the state made NAMI-NYC Metro a well deserving recipient of this award.

This week, NAMI-NYS Executive Director Wendy Burch traveled to Washington D.C. to join NAMI and other heath organizations for the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease Advocacy Day. The main goal for the advocacy day was to urge members of Congress to listen to patients and the problems they are experiencing in obtaining proper care and medications. Wendy met with the offices of NY Representative Paul Tonko and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI).
